Uvie Onakpoya is a professor of cardiovascular and thoracic surgery with specialty in paediatric and congenital heart surgery as well as a special interest in Oesophageal and lung surgeries. He graduated from the University of Benin medical school in 1996 and completed specialty training in general surgery in 2005, Cardiothoracic Surgery in 2008 (Alexandria University, Egypt) and paediatric and congenital surgery in 2010 from the Edmund J Safra International Congenital Hospital of the Sheba Medical Centre, Israel. He pioneered open heart surgery at Ile- Ife Nigeria and is a visiting cardiac surgeon to several hospitals in Nigeria including Evercare Hospitals Lekki, Duchess International Hospital Ikeja, ABUAD multi system hospital Ado-Ekiti and Tristate Hospital Lekki. Professor Uvie Onakpoya has authored over 60 scientific publications in his field and actively lectures medical students and resident doctors in Cardiothoracic Surgery
